Have you ever noticed that the things we own say something about us before we even open our mouths? Whether its a watch, a wallet, a pair of sunglasses or even the clothes we put on without thinking in the morning all of them end up telling a story without saying a word. That is the idea behind Zyvora. The goal is to create a brand based on luxury, honest design and quality that lasts for many years.
From the beginning I never wanted the focus to be on price tags or big logos. For me luxury is not about showing how much something costs. It is the way it feels in your hands the care that went into making it and whether or not it is still useful years later.
Fashion changes quickly because every season there is a new trend, a new color or a new style that everyone wants. It is fun to follow that. Still I don’t think everything has to keep up with it. I want Zyvoras designs to be modern. In a way that they will still look good five or ten years from now—something you can buy today and feel comfortable wearing in the future.
The collection starts with watches, wallets, sunglasses, clothing and a number of accessories. Even though each item should have its personality they all need to keep that clear Zyvora style—clean lines, strong materials and the kind of small details that only become obvious after you own the product.
I also don’t want Zyvora to feel like it is for special moments. Real luxury should be something that fits into a Tuesday. It should be in your bag when you are going to class a Zyvora watch on your wrist while you are working and sunglasses when you are on a trip—the idea is that these items should be part of a person’s life instead of staying in a drawer until some event comes along to make them useful.
Another idea is behind all of this: to buy things and to buy better ones. I support an idea: quality over quantity. It is easy to want something just because everyone else wants it too. Ideally I want to make items that people decide to keep items that do not feel old-fashioned soon as a new trend comes along so there is no need to replace them. Zyvora is not about fashion; it is about creating something that stays with you.
I know that none of this will be easy. There is still a lot that I need to learn- about customers, materials, production, marketing and just the everyday work of running a business.. That is one of the reasons it is so exciting for me. Now Zyvora is just an idea on paper. My goal is to make it real.
What this is really, about is confidence and being unique: choosing something because it feels like you than because the logo is talking for you.
My idea of what luxury’s includes simplicity, thoughtfulness and lasting quality. Trends will always be around. Good style usually isn’t.
